The prestigious event held on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at the Hilton Honours Hotel, Niagara Falls, Canada, saw the cerebral monarch deliver an inspiring address to the unique audience, urging them to always remain focused in all they do and especially directing their attention back home to preserve their lineal heritage.
The gathering attracted a high-profile audience of University of Ilorin alumni from across the globe, including eminent professors and academics, serving political leaders and senior public office holders, recipients of national honours, captains of industry and trailblazers from the organised private sector, as well as a wide representation of accomplished Unilorin graduates excelling in various fields worldwide.
In his speech, the Elerinmo of Erinmo emphasized the importance of alumni unity, cultural identity, and global networking as vital tools for strengthening the University’s legacy and expanding its impact on the world stage. He celebrated the achievements of Unilorin alumni across sectors and called for greater collaboration, mentorship, and investment in education and community development.
The monarch stressed the need for more diaspora alumni support for the development of their alma mater, Unilorin, including expounding initiatives and involvement in the development of Nigeria and in supporting government efforts.
He urged the diaspora union to continue being good ambassadors of their alma mater, while working in harmony to support one another. Lastly, he reminded them of the need to invest more in their country Nigeria.
The royal father’s presence and address added colour, prestige, and depth to the reunion, making it a truly historic and memorable occasion in the annals of the University of Ilorin Alumni Association.
The University of Ilorin Global Alumni Reunion get-together is done every two years in different locations of the world. The dinner event meant exclusively for the Unilorin alumni in diaspora has continued to garner momentum as members converge en-masse at every location to chart way forward for the great institution in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria.
Oba Elerinmo, whose presence in every distinguished gathering has continued to increase by leaps, said the role of traditional rulers should go beyond their domain to every relevant sector.
He emphasized the need for government to adequately utilise the potentials of monarchs in Nigeria for roles in the development and security of the country, adding that traditional rulers who are close to the grassroots know their community more than the government.
