The National Institute of Construction Technology and Management (NICTM), Uromi, came out on top in the maiden edition of the inter-school quiz competition organized by the Edo axis Joint Campus Council (JCC) of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Edo State Axis.

The University of Benin took the second position, while Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma came third.

The quiz competition held at the Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma saw participating institutions showcase their ideas and academic depth on the topic, “Safe Campus for Students: Combating Physical and Digital Threats”.

Following a tie between NICTM and UNIBEN, the judges invoked a tie-breaker round to determine the winner. In the end, NICTM emerged winner and took home the grand prize of N300,000, leaving UNIBEN with the second prize of N200,000. Third place winners, AAU Ekpoma, walked away with N100,000.

Speaking at the event on the topic “Use the Cyberspace Positively”, Acting Zonal Director of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Benin Zonal Directorate, Effa Okim, called on students to see digital platforms not as tools for crime or deceit but as platforms that should be harnessed for knowledge, entrepreneurship, and positive influence.

He said the internet was not just a playground but a powerful tool to build and enlighten.

On his part, the Senior Special Assistant to the Edo State Governor on Student Matters, Comrade Jimah Mubarak, assured that the state government remained committed to securing educational spaces in the state.

Mubarak said Governor Monday Okpebholo’’s SHINE agenda placed premium value on youth empowerment, education, and security.

The Chairman of Edo State NANS JCC, Comrade Ojumoola Miracle, said the quiz competition was aimed at creating a platform where academic excellence, critical thinking, and constructive engagement could be celebrated and rewarded among Nigerian students.

“We believe that fostering a culture of scholarship and collaboration among students can combat many of the vices plaguing campuses today. This event was a call to elevate the standard of student unionism in Edo State,” he said.
