The Akanu Ibiam International Airport Enugu will reopen for flight operations on Monday, April 28, 2025, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) announced on Saturday.
The reopening, which is coming ahead of schedule, follows the completion of emergency runway repairs at the airport, FAAN said in a statement signed by its Public Affairs and Consumer Protection Director, Obiageli Orah.
FAAN had on April 18 announced that the runway would be shut down for emergency repairs due to a sudden and significant rupture in the asphalt surface at a critical section of the runway. It had also scheduled the work to begin on April 22 and conclude before reopening on May 6, 2025.
“However, rehabilitation works on the runway have been completed, and the runway is cleared for landings and takeoffs by the engineers working with FAAN,” the statement said.
FAAN appreciated all airport users and stakeholders for their understanding and cooperation while the airport remained closed. It also apologised to the public for the inconvenience the temporary shutdown might have caused and assured that all actions were taken in the interest of safety.
