Afrobeats singer Mayorkun (real name, Emmanuel Adewale) says he is contemplating relocating out of Nigeria amid hardship in the country.
“I dey reason to japa [relocate],” the ‘Mayor of Lagos’ crooner wrote in a post on his X handle on Monday.
Nigerians have been caught in the throes of a debilitating hardship in the last two years, triggered by the economic policies of the Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government.
In the midst of it all, the ‘Japa Syndrome’ – relocation abroad – which has been ongoing has assumed a heightened dimension. And Nigerian celebrities have not been left out as a number of them have also moved abroad.
Daily Post reports that notable celebrities like Tacha, Eldee, Dr. Sid, Genevieve Nnaji, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, Rita Dominic, Uche Jombo, Emeka Ike, and many others have relocated from the country within the past decade.
Last year, veteran singer Banky W announced that he had relocated to the United States with his family for educational purposes.
