Artdequate, a creative community based in Benin City, Edo State, has officially changed its name to Red Soil Collective.

The group announced the name change in a notice to the general public on Saturday, March 15, 2025 signed by its management.

On why the group decided to change its name, founder of Red Soil Collective, Colored Boi, said, “We wanted a name that truly embodies our essence-our connection to Benin, its rich artistic heritage, and the fertile ground we’re creating for artists to thrive. Red soil is not just literal; it symbolizes growth, resilience, and the unbreakable link between our past, present, and future as artists.”

Founded in Benin City, Nigeria, Red Soil Collective is a creative movement born out of a deep need to reclaim African narratives, nurture emerging talent, and create spaces where artists can thrive.

The notice said with the transition to Red Soil Collective, the organization is setting its sights on expanding its reach and impact. Plans are already in motion for a physical cohort programme, which will provide mentorship and resources for young artists looking to refine their craft. Additionally, upcoming projects will explore multidisciplinary storytelling, bridging the gap between photography, theatre, poetry, and digital media.

“The rebrand isn’t just a change in name-it’s a statement of intent. Red Soil Collective aims to build an ecosystem where African artists can create, connect, and reshape the global art conversation on their own terms,” the notice said.

“We appreciate the continued support of our community and collaborators as we embark on this exciting new phase. All official communications, projects, and engagements will now operate under the name RED SOIL COLLECTIVE.”
