The Edo State Ministry of Education, in its effort to modernise education administration and enhance the academic experience for learners, has officially launched EdoCert 2.0, a cutting-edge digital platform for certificate and report card generation and verification.
Notably, the Edo State Government is the first to launch EdoCert 2.0 in Nigeria, a major leap forward in the state’s efforts to transform education management.
The unveiling ceremony, with the theme ‘Edo State Educational Certificate/Report Card Generation and Verification Platform’, was held on Tuesday at the Ministry of Education in Benin City.
The educational innovative solution, supported by the Gates Foundation, is set to redefine how Basic Six and Basic Nine students across Edo State access and authenticate their academic credentials.
The initiative aligns with the five-point agenda of the governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, which include education at its core for the improvement of the quality of life of the great people of Edo State.
EdoCert 2.0, a revolutionary digital platform for educational certificate and report card issuance and verification, as well as a key component of the DiCert digital public infrastructure platform, is designed to streamline the issuance of academic certificates, significantly improving operational efficiency, while reducing administrative costs.
By automating the certificate and classroom report card generation, the platform eliminates manual errors, enhances data accuracy, eradicates fraud, and ensures consistency across records. It also offers scalability and accessibility, enabling students to receive their certificates promptly, regardless of their location.
While formally unveiling EdoCert 2.0, the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Paddy Emmanuel Iyamu, said, “EdoCert 2.0 is a demonstration of the new government’s commitment to leveraging technology and digital innovation to improve service delivery to the great people of Edo State. With EdoCert, we are not only making certificate issuance more efficient and secure but also empowering our students with a seamless, verifiable, and globally accessible credentialing system.
“This initiative eliminates delays, reduces fraud, and enhances the credibility of Edo State’s educational qualifications.
“The Ministry of Education is glad to partner with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation as a frontier state in the application of digital certificate verification process for our general examinations and report card generation.
“This is a great way to further reinforce Edo State leadership through a simple and easy-to-use platform that enhances the credibility of the learning delivery system in the state.”
Speaking at the launch earlier, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Mrs. Edith Atomre Ebomoyi, emphasised the transformative impact of the platform.
“This initiative is very timely considering global technological advancements. It is a milestone in modernizing and securing the records of the Ministry of Education. We now have a reliable, easily verifiable system that reduces processing delays, and I look forward to contributions and feedback to further enhance the platform,” Ebomoyi said.
On his part, CEO of Data Science Nigeria, the Bill and Melinda Gates implementing partner in Edo State, Dr. Olubayo Adekanmbi, stated, “We are excited about the possibilities of DiCert, a digital public platform, good in how citizens can easily access basic services like academic credentials.
“For Edo State and other states that will adopt this strategic social investment, DiCert will expedite access to education certificates, eliminate costs associated with delays and unverifiable credentials, such as lost academic opportunities and missed scholarships.
“It will also offer instant verification for educational institutions and employers while enhancing the credibility of the learning delivery system.”
During the event, participating students were given a live demonstration on how to download the template and use the digital system, reinforcing the ease and accuracy of EdoCert2.0.
With Edo State embracing digital transformation, the new platform promises a more transparent, efficient, and secured future for improved educational record-keeping and data management,
Additionally, it provides the Ministry of Education with comprehensive and easily retrievable records of issued certificates, which supports better decision-making and future planning.
