It was history for Remo Stars Ladies as they forced Edo Queens to a 1-1 draw in a captivating Women’s Football League (NWFL) Matchday 3 encounter on Wednesday night at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.

Edo Queens, who dominated possession and created more goal-scoring opportunities in the first half, got a lead advantage courtesy of a well-taken penalty by Esther Moses in the 48th minute. The spot-kick was awarded to Edo Queens after a foul in the box.

However, Remo Stars responded swiftly in the second half, with Bashiru Kafayat finding the net just two minutes after the restart. Despite both teams pushing for a winner, neither side could break the deadlock before the final whistle.

The result means Edo Queens remain unbeaten at home this season, though they were disappointed not to have secured maximum points in front of their fans.

In a post-match interview, the Edo Queens coach, Moses Aduku, commended the two teams for a match well played, referring to it as “quality game from both sides”. However, he attributed the end result to “loss of concentration” from his team.

In anticipation of their next away match in Lagos, Aduku promised to recover the two points lost, saying, “We are angry we lost two points at home, so we must go all out to recover it.”

Remo Stars coach Wemimo Matthew expressed her excitement with the results of the match, attributing the nice game to “attacking foot” played by her team.

Speaking ahead of next game, she emphasised that they are holding on to their “operation win all games”.

It’s a positive outcome for Remo Stars, while Edo Queens are left to nurse missed goal-scoring opportunities as they got reduced valuable points at home.
