The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is set to inaugurate an externally hosted whistleblowing platform in 2025.
The platform, which goes live on January 1, is a significant step towards creating a safe environment for employees, vendors, consultants, executives, and other stakeholders to report incidences of personal and professional misconduct, unethical behaviour, or violations of the law without fear of retaliation.
The CBN stated this in the latest update for December 2024 on its website.
“In furtherance of management’s commitment to promoting an organisation with high ethical standards, honesty, and integrity, the Central Bank of Nigeria is launching a new externally hosted platform to manage whistleblowing,” the apex bank stated.
“This marks a significant step towards creating a safe environment for employees, vendors, consultants, executives, and other stakeholders to report incidences of personal and professional misconduct, unethical behaviour, or violations of the law without fear of retaliation,” it said.
The CBN noted that the platform would bolster its ongoing efforts to uphold the highest standards of ethical behaviour internally and within the Nigerian financial sector.
It further stated that all reports made via the channel would be investigated by the bank promptly and treated with utmost confidentiality and professionalism, ensuring that every concern is taken to protect the whistle-blower.
CBN also noted that the new reporting channel would go live on 1 January 2025, adding that it would share further details soon as it continues to promote a culture of operational excellence.
