The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has announced plans to increase the number of clubs participating in the league for the 2025-26 season.

The league will expand from 16 to 20 teams, according to a declaration made during the Annual General Assembly (AGA) held in Abuja on Tuesday.

“Arrangements will be put in place for a successful take-off,” the NWFL stated.

This marks another milestone in the league’s growth, which began with 12 teams in 2017.

Rivers Angels, one of the league’s most successful teams, have claimed seven NWFL titles since the competition’s inception.

The expansion reflects the league’s commitment to fostering the development of women’s football in Nigeria.
