Nigeria’s star Ademola Lookman looks positioned to be awarded the next African Footballer of the Year, an award currently held by Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen.

All calculations and predictions indicate that Ademola Lookman may be the favourite on five-man shortlist in this year’s edition through his performance this year.

If the dream turns out real, it would be the first time since 1999 that Nigerian players would clinch the highly coveted award back to back. The last time was when Victor Ikpeba won it in 1998 and Kanu Nwankwo was crowned the following year.

Before the Galatasaray striker won the award last year, Nigerian players had had to wait patiently for 25 years.

Ademola Lookman is on the list with Guinean player, Samuel Guirassy of Borrussia Dortmund, Simon Adingra (Ivory Coast/Brighton & Hove Albion), Achraf Hakimi (Morocco/Paris Saint-Germain), and Ronwen Williams (South Africa/Mamelodi Sundowns).
