Arsenal are reported to be eyeing Dan Ashworth as replacement for Edu Gaspar who recently resigned his position as the club’s Sporting Director.

This follows Ashworth’s shock early departure at Manchester United after just five months.

Sources say Edu, whose resignation sent shockwaves through Arsenal, has agreed to lead Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis’ multi-club group, marking a significant career shift.

But Ashworth’s availability has piqued Arsenal’s interest, ESPN reports.

Ashworth, 53, recently parted ways with United after a brief five-month stint, with reports suggesting that his departure stemmed from conflicts with senior figures at the club, tarnishing his tenure.

Manchester United had, in an official statement announcing Ashworth’s departure, thanked him for his illustrious work as the club’s Sporting Director.

“Dan Ashworth will be leaving his role as Sporting Director of Manchester United by mutual agreement. We would like to thank Dan for his work and support during a transitional period for the club and wish him well for the future,” the club said.

Although Ashworth had a good spell during his time at Newcastle and Brighton, gaining a reputation for his smart recruitment in the transfer market, he wasn’t able to replicate that with his signings for Man Utd this summer.

The Red Devils have endured a bad start to the season, with new additions such as Leny Yoro, Manuel Ugarte, Joshua Zirkzee and Matthijs de Ligt not looking their best this season.

With Ashworth’s departure, the club is unsure of the next line of action but will have to fill in the huge gap left by the former Sporting Director.

The club sit in 13th in the Premier League after two losses, a win and a draw under new head coach Amorim.
