Some residents of Lagos State, Nigeria’s bustling commercial capital, have asked a former governor of the state, Akinwunmi Ambode, to run for governor again in the 2027 elections, offering to purchase the party expression of interest and nomination forms for the former governor.

The residents, under the aegis of Lagos Residents Association (LRA), believe that Ambode has the vision and capability to transform Lagos State if given a second chance.

Ambode served as governor from 2015 to 2019 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) but his attempt at a second term was truncated after he lost the party’s primary election under controversial circumstances.

The LRA, in a statement by its President General, Dr. Olumuyiwa Adesanmi, urged the APC in Lagos to give the party’s governorship ticket to Ambode in 2027.

The LRA emphasized that it is Ambode’s constitutional right to seek a second term and that the people of Lagos want him back in office.

Ambode’s legacy in human capital development, infrastructure, and the transformation of Lagos remains visible across the state, Adesanmi said, noting that the former governor enjoys massive support from residents who were positively impacted by his governance.

He said Ambode’s achievements during his first term remain unmatched and that the former governor deserves the opportunity to finish the work he began, particularly in the areas of infrastructure and human development.

Among Ambode’s achievements between 2015 and 2019 include the Lagos International Airport Road and the Oshodi Transport Interchange.

“The legacy he left behind is there for all to see,” the statement said. “We, the residents of Lagos, are solidly behind him and are calling on him to come back and complete what he started.”
